WHY VISITING CROATIA IN APRIL?

April is the month during which you can truly enjoy Croatia – this time of the year is open for more peaceful adventures, with opportunities to explore Croatia's natural beauties, historic landmarks and local culture without the crowds, as the tourist season hasn't yet reached its peak. This is a great month to visit National parks, as the many flowering trees will be in full bloom. As the days grow warmer and longer, enjoy visiting top tourist destinations in Croatia, such as Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik.

DAY 2

Breakfast at the hotel.

April marks the beginning of spring and the growing season. Enjoy hanging around in three blooming parks in the center of Zagreb, between the Main Square and the central train station. The parks are always full of people, some reading, other picnicking, and some just napping. In these April afternoons and evenings, in the hours when bells echo through Zagreb, that the St. Mark's Festival is happening. The basic idea is music playing by supreme artists in concert and church premises of the Zagreb Upper and Lower Town. The Festival thus becomes also a festival of meeting of the Croatian music tradition of today with European and world music tradition and performance practice. Most concerts take place in Zagreb's colorful St Mark's church.

Zagreb grew up on two neighboring hills: Kaptol - the centre of spiritual and religious life of north-western Croatia and Gradec - the commercial centre of skilful tradesmen and craftsmen. Take an easy walk with your guide, visiting the Upper Town with its Gothic Cathedral, the beautiful and ornate St. Catherine's church or the massive St. Mark's church with its famous color-tiled roof. Continue to the medieval Stone Gate and "Dolac", the open-air market which are a must for all visitors. Overnight at the hotel in Zagreb area.


Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer from Zagreb to Split, visiting Plitvice National Park en route. There is never a bed time to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park, but during April, there is a special sight, as the lakes and waterfalls are swollen with melting winter snow and there are fewer visitors, so you will have the park pretty much for yourselves.

Plitvice National Park is one of the most beautiful and best preserved national parks in the country. This is why the entire lakes and surrounding area were declared a national park in 1949 and are listed on the UNESCO`s list of World Heritage Sites because of its exceptional beauty. It is a valley situated between high forested mountains in which lie, one below another, a string of sixteen beautiful lakes of crystal blue and green waters. Fed by small streams and brooks, they spill into each other in 92 foaming cascades and thundering waterfalls. The lakes themselves cover about 2 square kilometers and the entire national park covers 200 square kilometers. The Plitvice lakes` scenery will simply delight you regardless whether you are walking the paths and wooden bridges, taking a boat ride or just taking photographs. Transfer continues to Split (Duration approx. 2,5 hrs) Overnight at the hotel in Split area.

Enjoy the sunny Split, take a stroll on Split famous seaside promenade and don't miss to have a leisure coffee in one of the cafes. Days of Marulic – Croatian Theatre Festival is the most popular cultural event in April. This festival celebrates Split's most renowned playwright, Marko Marulic who completed Judita, the first truly "Croatian" literary work. The festival brings together theatre troupes from around the country to compete for top prizes in various categories. In April there is also famous Croatia Boat Show in Split, which gets bigger, lusher and more attended every year. The Boat Show is an entire social event walking around a line-up of magnificent boats. Expect to see hundreds of luxury yachts, sailing boats and speedboats aligned in the waters of Split port and on land.

The Split private tour will take you along the Old City to visit main sights: the old town of Split is built on and around the spectacular Roman Palace erected by the Roman Emperor Diocletian (born in Salona – today's Solin) in the 4th century. The walking tour starts with a visit to the cellars of the Palace that are still very well preserved. The cellars offer a good view at how the life in the Palace was organized. The Cathedral St. Duje is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Duje. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Duje. Overnight at the hotel in Split area.


Day 5

Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer from Split to Dubrovnik, visiting Ston en route. Ston is a small town on a narrow isthmus connecting the peninsula of Peljesac with the mainland known for their traditional salt production, construction of a huge, fortified complex encompassing the settlements of Mali and Veliki Ston and high quality oysters. The best oysters in Croatia and the world come from Mali Ston bay, which has been famous for seashell cultivation since the Roman Empire days. Oysters are at their best in this time of the year, so you can't miss the opportunity to taste it. Traditionally served row and sprinkled with a lemon juice, along with glass of best wines from this region. Transfer continues to Dubrovnik. Overnight at the hotel in Dubrovnik area.

DAY 6

The "pearl of Adriatic" is beautiful and vibrant in any time of the year, but beginning in April, Dubrovnik opens up, the weather warms up considerably, and you can still enjoy the sights without the crowds. Dubrovnik has a lot to offer in April, such as the regional wine festival - Dubrovnik FestiWine that use to take place in the atrium of the Klarisa restaurant. Experience plenty of excitement during Wine exhibition, as the central event of the festival, with few wine events and different cultural events and workshops. The Aklapela Festival, hosted in the Marin Drzic Theatre in Dubrovnik, will host male and female a cappella groups. Aklapela festival, the best Croatian klapas that nourish the authentic klapa singing, is named by a pun of the words klapa and a cappella, and organize to contribute preserving the traditional way of klapa singing.


OPTIONAL: Dubrovnik sightseeing & cable car tour with local guide (duration approx. 2,5 hrs)

This walking tour will open the doors to you to one of the largest and most luxurious open air museum town .You departs on foot from Pile square to the newly renovated Cable Car station, which will take you to the best panoramic view from the Srd hill. The bird's eye view on the greatness of the old Dubrovnik bathed in the sun will be a sight you will never forget. A clear day will grant you views of up to 60 kilometers and ample photo opportunities. Once returned the guide will lead you by foot through the narrow streets of the Old Town for the walking tour introducing you to the history and culture of this magnificent city. The spirit of Renaissance preserved in this famous city awaits you.
